AB 109 Supervision
The AB 109 supervision unit is housed in our Day Reporting Center and supervises those offenders who prior to the passing of Public Safety Realignment Act (AB 109), would have either been sentenced to state prison or supervised by state parole and shifting the responsibility of certain offender supervision from the state to the county. These caseloads include offenders on Post Release Community Supervision and Mandatory Supervision. Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS): PRCS offenders are those who have been released from state prison and based on their committing offense are released to PRCS rather than state parole. Mandatory Supervision (MS): MS offenders are those sentenced for specific crimes to a split sentence pursuant to Penal Code Section 1170(h)(5)(B). The offender serves a portion of their sentence in custody (local prison/county jail) and the remaining portion of the sentence on MS supervised by the Probation Department. K9 Unit: The Probation Department’s dual purpose K9 is also assigned to the AB 109 unit. The K9 program currently consists of K9 Riggs who is trained in narcotics detection and criminal apprehension. Since its inception in 2017, the Probation Department’s K9 unit has been utilized to locate illegal narcotics, assisted the arrest of high risk wanted offenders, and as an asset to other law enforcement agencies throughout Tehama County. Tehama Major Crimes Unit (TMCU): One probation officer is assigned to the TMCU which consists of officers from the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office, Red Bluff Police Department, Corning Police Department, Tehama County Probation Department, Tehama County District Attorney’s Bureau of Investigation, and California Highway Patrol working together to investigate crimes occurring throughout Tehama County
